5 Skin Care Secrets For Healthier Looking Skin
The human skin is the largest organ of the body, yet it's often neglected in our daily care routines. While most of us cleanse and moisturize, there's a lot more involved in maintaining healthy, radiant skin. Dr. Alekya Singapore, Dermatologist & Founder of The Skin Sensé - Skin & Hair Clinics, shares five expert-backed skin care secrets to help you glow from within.
1. Gentle Treatment
Avoid harsh soaps that strip your skin of essential oils. Instead, opt for mild, fragrance-free cleansers. Post-cleansing, pat your skin dry with a soft towel rather than rubbing it harshly—this helps retain natural moisture and prevent irritation.
2. Balanced Diet & Hydration
Your skin reflects your diet. Load up on leafy greens, lean proteins, and fresh fruits. Avoid greasy or overly processed foods. Most importantly, stay hydrated—drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day. Apps and reminders can help you stay on track.
⚠️ Avoid: Smoking and heavy drinking, as they reduce blood flow and contribute to premature aging and dull skin tone.
3. Regular Exfoliation
Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and allows new ones to surface, promoting a brighter complexion. Use a mild exfoliator 2-3 times a month to avoid irritation and support a smoother, more youthful glow.
4. Sound Sleep
A proper sleep schedule is essential for skin regeneration. Aim for 7–8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. A consistent sleep cycle reduces under-eye circles and improves skin elasticity, making you appear well-rested and refreshed.
5. Sunscreen Is Non-Negotiable
UV radiation is one of the biggest causes of premature aging and skin damage. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily—even on cloudy days. Apply it at least 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every 2 hours when outdoors.
